Crosswoodhill very recently reached the finals in the SOLA ( Scottish Outdoor and Leisure Awards ) Self-catering Category. Jubilation! Then just days later we heard that we are also finalists in the Best Green Holiday Home category in the EHHA (European Holiday Home Awards). More hurrahs!
It is so rewarding to have our passion for going that extra mile for our guests recognised. But we also attribute a lot of our success to our unique setting on the Pentland Hills. Our guests are amazed at the dramatic landscape unfolding from their doors on our livestock farm. The hilly and often remote landscape has the feel you are in the Highlands.
Yet Crosswoodhill is just a 30 minute drive from the heart of Edinburgh city. We tempt our guests out into the countryside with guide books detailing over 60 walks in the Pentlands. The choice of so many varied trails in such a relatively small area is testament to the recreational quality of the land and the diversity of terrain. We provide maps, a compass, even provide welly boots for the more adventurous wanting to traverse peat bogs. We can even throw in a bit of history. A tramp to the Covenanters Grave reminds us of the sadness of long ago events. This first link has a route map marking Crosswoodhill and tells the history behind the grave. This second link could start you on a new pastime, geo-caching.
Talking about history, coming soon in this latest news section, we plan tell you a bit about the new Mary Queen of Scots film premiering in the UK in January 2019, some of it filmed at nearby Linlithgow Palace, her birthplace.
And still on this historic theme, if you click here, you can read about other historically linked attractions.
